June 11, 2008 Tim Glass wins Dominick Epee Challenge  Crushing all who stood before him, Tim proved his medal once again.  The tournament was again A2 rated.  Sadly, no other club wanted to take on IFC.  So for the first time in its eight year history, no team event.   Click here for complete results.

Mar. 9, 2008 Junior Olympic News  15 year old IFC fencer Harrison Siegal took 109th place out of 230 in Junior Men's Epee, and was the highest place Illinois fencer.  He was also 104th out of 225 in Cadet.

Mar. 9, 2008  IFC fencer Alexa Laskaris  placed 3rd in the Y10 Women's Foil in the Super Regional Youth Cup in New Hampshire.
Mar. 9, 2008  2008 Pre-Competitive Clinic our biggest yet  Fencers from different clubs from Illinois and Wisconsin attended. Participants said that they "loved every minute of it," and that they learned "tremendously" about preparation for tournaments. Previous participants said that it was "the best clinic so far."  IFC Fencers qualify for Junior Olympics  Our young fencers had a great day at the JO Qualifiers at Northwestern University.  Alan Markow took 3rd place in Cadet Men's Foil.  Tasha Domashovetz took 3rd in Cadet Women's Epee.  Harrison Siegel was 2nd in Junior Men's Epee and earned a D2007 classification.  All qualified.

 Results from CLC Tournament  On September 23rd the College of Lake County held a tournament where our young fencers did very well. In Youth 12 Foil - Len Grazin - 1st, Nicole Mitchell - 3rd.  In Youth 14 Epee, Scott Durand - 2nd. In Youth 14 Foil - Chris Monti - 2nd, Len Grazian- 3rd. July 31, 2007  IFC Youth Tournament  Held on June 3rd, this event had over 70 entries, including 21 for Y12 Foil.  IFC young ones Harrison Siegel, Len Grazian, Chris Monti, and Marcin Zmyslowski were all stand outs, winning their events. Complete results can be found by clicking here.

April 4, 2007  CAA Regional Youth Circuit Results  IFC youth fencers did very well at the December 3rd RYC tournament hosted by the Chicago Athletic Association, with almost 50% of our fencers reaching the top 8 of every event they entered.

 Summer Nationals Results  Congratulations to Tim Glass who won the 50-59 Mens' Epee Championship!  Click here and here to see the award pictures. Also, the IFC team of Robert Baldwin, Rene Castellanos, Daniel Kolosieke and Alex Shilkrut took 9th place out of 33 in the Senior Team Men's Epee.

 IFC Epeeists are on the Rise  Tim Glass earns an A06 classification with his first place finish at the 2006 Midwest Sectionals.  Daniel Kolosieke earned a B06 classification by taking second place (and knocking out several highly ranked fencers in the process).  Our new member Alex Shilkrut placed 4th at the Hutchinson Open, also earned a B06.  Our congratulations to all!

November 18, 2005  Goodbye to Christine Dominick  After four years with the IFC, and winning more trophies than she can pack into a storage unit, Christine is leaving the IFC to train in Colorado.  We'll miss her.  Good luck, Christine.  And remember you always have a home with us.

 Results from the Fifth Annual IFC Beginners Tournament  In foil, 1st place Jason Will of the University of Wisconsin, 2nd place Tony Parello of the CAAFC, 3rd places Carsen Rodeback and Alice Stanford. In sabre, 1st place Derek Koman, 2nd place Stephen Yamada of the CFC, 3rd places Josh Suevel and Matt Brown of the University of Wisconsin. 32 people participated. Thanks everyone! February 16, 2005  Results from the 2004 IFC Open  are available by clicking here. This year's Foil was a B1 class event with 20 competitors, Epee an A2 with 28 and Sabre a D1 with 15. John Lartz took 3rd place in Epee.  Thanks to all who competed!

 A Good Week for the IFC.

  • On Nov. 14th at the Regional Youth Circuit Event held at the Chicago Athletic Association, Ed Sobieski took the gold in 10 Epee and bronze in U12 Epee,  Brian Zielnicki and Quinton Spahn both took the bronze in U12 Foil,  Emmett Barr and Len Grazian both took bronze in U10 Foil.

  • On Nov. 20th, Sam Selinger won the Men's Epee event at the Catholic Memorial High School Invitational.

December 13, 2004  Christine Dominick has won the Women's Epee event, 2004 Remenyik, held at Northwestern University!  This was the toughest this event has been in years. Congratulations, Christine!
December 13, 2004  At the College of Lake County Open, held on October 17th,  Our President David St. George took 3rd place, earning a B04 classification.  Hail to the Chief!

 At the Burton Open held on October 9th at Northwestern University,  Congratulations to both of them!  John Lartz took 3rd place in Men's Epee and Christine Dominick took 3rd place in Women's Epee.

November 22, 2004  At the Chicago Junior Fencing Festival held on September 19th,   IFC fencers Brian Zielnicki(12y old) took 2nd place and Quinton Spahn (12y old) took 3rd place.  Congratulations to both of them!
August 25, 2004  Christine Dominick wins the Div IA Women's Épée  at the 2004 Summer Nationals.  We are so proud of her.  Christine is our first ever Div IA champion.

April 30th, 2003  Kristin Rill tears up the World  On March 4th, 2003 our girl Kristin and the Ohio State University Fencing Team took 1st place at the Midwest Championships.  Read the story.

At the Fencing 2000 Regional Youth Tournament held Saturday, June 8th, our boy Bobby Juckett finished second out of eight in the Under 10 Sabre. All hail Bobby, the future of fencing!

July 2nd, 2002 My fencing boss, New Trier Coach Colby Vargus and his lovely wife have a new addition to the family.  Introducing Lindy Vargus, who weighed in at 10 pounds 11 ounces.  Colby says it was an easy delivery.  Yeah, right boss.  You try pulling a 12 pound sack a' sugar out of your crotch.  Mother and baby doing fine.
