Am I not the cutest little thing you ever did see?Come to the third annual Chicago Junior Fencing Festival. Begin the new season with a fun tournament. Bring your friends and teammates to this annual mixed event.

Registration closes promptly. Fencing will start as soon after close of registration as possible.

Note: You must be a current USFA member. Bring USFA/CFF/FIE card to Registration. If you have no proof of membership, you will be required to join at the tournament. Click here for more information on USFA Membership requirement.  Masks and bodycords will be checked.

USFA uniform (underarm protector required) and equipment rules will be enforced. Participation in multiple events is limited (National rule applies).


The Events

On the first day, Sept. 17th there will be a Right-Of-Way clinic.

The second day, Sept. 18th will be a tournament for Junior, Cadet and Youth fencers, 19 years old or younger, followed by a closing awards ceremony.

The following are matters related to the Tournament. This is followed by information specific to the remaining event.

  1. Age groups. Events will be held in three age groups; Junior (19 years & Under), Cadet (16 years & Under) and Y14 (14 years & younger). Age is determined as of January 1st of the competitive season (August 1st through July 31st). All events will be mixed gender, although separate medals and ribbons will be given for male and female competitors.
  2. Other Regions. Fencers from other Regions are welcome to participate.
  3. Weapons. All three weapons will be fenced in each age classification.
  4. Tournament Format will be pools to five points, used to establish seeding to the direct elimination (DE). DE bouts will be conducted as they are at a NAC. The DE bouts are 15 touches (three 3-minute periods, with a 1 minute rest between periods).
  5. USFA rules and membership. USFA rules will be enforced throughout the tournament. All competitors must be USFA members. If you are not a USFA member, forms will be available at the tournament. If you do not have your USFA card with you when checking in, you will be required to complete a new USFA form and pay the annual fee. The form and payment will be returned to you upon proof of USFA membership subsequent to the tournament. Athletes are encouraged to complete the form prior to the tournament since parental signature is required. Go to www.usfencing.org for a USFA member application.
  6. Testing. Masks will be tested prior to competition by an armorer. Fencers are responsible for making sure all equipment conforms to USFA specifications. Weapons will also be tested on the strip.
  7. Bouts. At the end of each bout, fencers are required to sign pool sheets and DE slips before leaving the strip.
  8. Festival Fees:
    1. Tournament Fees: $20 first weapon/ $5 each additional weapon
    2. Late fee of $5 MAY be imposed
    3. Checks payable to Chandler-Newberger Center.
  9. Pre-Registration: September 17, 2004. All entry forms must be postmarked no later then Friday, September 16, 2004. Late registration will be permitted although a $5 late fee MAY be imposed.   11. Medals. Separate medals will be given for male and female athletes. Medals will be awarded to 1st through 3rd place, with no fence-off for the bronze medal.
